Celebrating the 4th of July

This Sunday is one of the most patriotic holidays in the USA – it’s the United States Independence Day, which is celebrated every year on the 4th of July and is always full of family, friends, fireworks and fun.

For our non-US users, here’s a quick bit of history (because it’s important to know the reason behind the festivities!). Independence Day celebrates the separation of the USA from Great Britain and the United States’ declaration of independence.

People celebrate the 4th of July in many different ways; from having small family gatherings and picnics with friends, to throwing huge parties and eating and drinking until dawn. Wherever you go and whatever you do, you’ll see the American colors of red, white and blue splashed across everything and everyone!

If you haven’t decided what you’re going to do to celebrate Independence Day this year, here are a few ideas for you…

Watch a firework display…

Watching a firework display is one of the most popular ways to celebrate the 4th of July. You’ll be spoilt for choice seeing as there are so many different ones held all across the country. Just go to Google, search for fireworks displays in your area and you’ll find a number of displays being held. And let’s face it, who doesn’t love watching fireworks?

Have a barbecue…

The Independence Day holiday is the perfect time to throw a family gathering and have a barbecue! Hot dogs, hamburgers, corn on the cob and coleslaw are great foods to enjoy whilst celebrating Independence Day. And don’t forget the American flag cake to finish off.

Fly the flag high…

Hanging the American flag from your house or car is one of many ways to show off your patriotism. And it will most certainly get you into the spirit of celebrating. Before you hang any flags up make sure to check the flag code. This is just to make sure that you treat the symbol with the respect it’s owed.

Watch a parade…

The atmosphere of the 4th of July parades are the epitome of ‘celebration’! If you’re looking to have some fun to celebrate Independence Day then definitely watch a parade. The colours, the music and the people are just a few of the things that make the parades so brilliant.

Bake some 4th of July cookies…

Baking 4th of July cakes and cookies is a fun way to celebrate the day and you can even get your kids involved and make it a fun family activity. Plus, it won’t break the bank either and you’ll have some yummy treats for later.
